a little knitting around here

Sitting down with my knitting has been my preferred “me time” of late.  The smooth needles, handling the wool, watching the shape and pattern emerge and the mindless flow I can enter into…time for knitting soothes the soul these days. And I can pick it up in the middle of a reading lesson, during short or long drives, and while waiting for the next thing.  And I love that something gets done- and stays done.  I just love it.

Here’s my first pair of self-striping socks, for my dear LouLou ( did I say she’s almost 14!). And aren’t her ballet legs & feet lovely?

And a pair of Toasties (with my added cable & ribbing variation) are for a dear friend- I need to pop them in the mail today.  I’ve had fun making these with Sirdar Snuggly- lovely colours to choose from and so soft.  On the needles today- I just casted off another mini pair of Toasties for Beebel (one skein made an adult and a little kids’ pair!).  Next is a cable earl flap for a new sweet baby girl, and a pair of wool socks for my Flip, to match Dad’s.

“reading rocks!”

As Miles completed lesson 100 in “Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons” last Friday, we thought he was long due for a little celebration of this achievement.  Reading has not come easy for this fella, and it has been slow & steady progress over the past several years.  I am so glad to be homeschooling and giving him the time he needs!  Fun party for all!
